Ivan Mladenov is a Full Professor (Ph.D.and D.Sc.) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and at the New Bulgarian University in Sofia. His chief topic of interest is the philosophy of Charles S. Peirce, on which he wrote a book, published by Routledge, Taylor and Francis Group, 2006, and defended a second Doctorate (D.Sc.). The book “Conceptualizing Metaphors. On Charles Peirce’s Marginalia” has been also translated in Japanese and published by the Keiso-shobo publishing house in Tokyo (2012). Some later publications by Professor Mladenov are: his 2011 book “Deviated Literature. A Pragmatist Overview”, a large article “Poetry of Bulgaria”, in: Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry, 2012, “An Anthology of Bulgarian Literature”, co-edited with Professor Henry R. Cooper from Indiana University, published by the Slavica Publishers U.S.A. in 2007 and. His main publications embrace a vast spectrum of research, such as semiotics, psychology, literary theory and the philosophy of science.
From 1991 to 1993 Ivan Mladenov did a research as a Fulbright grantee at the Research Center for Language and Semiotic Studies in Bloomington, Indiana, USA, with a close cooperation to Thomas Sebeok. In 1998 he organized courses on Peirce at the University of Salzburg (Austria) where he worked as a Guest lecturer till 2001. In 1999 he was a Getty grantee at the University of Rochester, New York. He was a Guest-Professor for 3 semesters in Classical Semiotics (Charles S.Peirce) and Bulgarian literature at the University of Helsinki, Finland, (2001 – 2002). Invited Guest-Professor for one semester at the Research Center for Contemporary Culture at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland in 2003 and for another semester in 2006. Guest-Professor (4 lectures on Charles Peirce’s categories and Charles Peirce on the Self) at the Metropolitan University, London, February, 2007. Guest-Professor at the University of Tartu, Estonia (The Method of Conceptualization) in April, 2007 and in May, 2008 (Peirce’s Categories). Guest-Professor at the University of Helsinki, Finland (American Pragmatism and Semiotics), 4 weeks in May, 2008; Guest-Professor in Bremen, Germany, June, 2008. For 2009 Ivan Mladenov is an invited Guest-Professor for one semester at the University of Bremen, Germany for lecturing 3 courses: American Philosophy and European Semiotics; American Pragmatism; and Byzantine Philosophy and Culture. Ivan Mladenov did one month research, lecturing and seminars at The International Academy of Philosophy (IAP), Liechtenstein, September-October, 2010. Second Fulbright Grant, 10th September, 2009 – 10th of February 2010 in the Indiana University Bloomington. Teaching and research. Teaching Bulgarian culture and literature. Research on Charles Peirce’s archives at the IUPUI – Indianapolis. Lecturing on Peirce at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX on the OLP (Occasional Lecturer Program) 15 – 19 November 2009. Two months (September – October, 2011) invited researcher at the Fondation “Maison des Sciences de l’ Homme”, Paris for doing research and participating in seminars for colleagues from INALCO University. Grant-winner of the City-council of Paris, program “Research in Paris”, 2012 – 2013 (6 months: September, 2012 – March 2013). Guest Professor at Leuphana University of Lüneburg, Germany for one semester, April – October 2013, with 3 seminars on semiotic pragmatism, Charles Peirce and epistemology.
