Paolo Fabbri

He graduated in 1962 at the University of Florence, Fabbri moved to Paris, where in 1965-66 he attended the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes(EPHE), in particular courses of Roland Barthes, Lucien Goldmann and Algirdas Julien Greimas. This contact with the French structural semiotics will be used to provide a theoretical and methodological perspective, of which he became one of the most active researchers.
Upon returning to Italy, he teaches Semiotics with Umberto Eco in University of Florence, Faculty of Architecture, 1966-67, and then as Professor of Philosophy of Language at the Institute of Languages of the University of Urbino, where he founded with Charles Bo and Joseph Paioni in 1970 the International Center for Semiotics and Linguistics: the first school of semiotics in the international scene, after that of Tartu (Estonia) founded by Yuri Lotman.
Since 1977 Fabbri continued his career teaching at the University of Bologna.
Paolo Fabbri has taken over the years a number of teaching in Italian universities of Florence, Milan, Palermo, Venice, Rome and abroad at Paris V, Sorbonne and Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) and Collège international de Philosophie in Paris, the University of UC Berkeley, Toronto, UC San Diego, UCLA , Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Istanbul, Mexico City, and others. Paolo Fabbri has been president of the AISV (International Association for Visual Semiotics).
He currently teaches Semiotics of Brand Communication at the University Institute of Modern Languages in Milan and Semiotics at the Faculty of Political Science at Free International University of Social Studies in Rome.
